FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

WHO CAN RIDE A SEGWAY?

Riding a Segway is fairly easy. If you can stand and hold your balance without falling over, then you can probably ride a Segway. They are pretty intuitive. All Riders must be at least 12 years old and weigh at least 100 pounds (no exceptions). The maximum weight limit is 260 pounds.  You need to be able to be on your feet for approximately 2 hours (Riding and Walking combined).  If you have mobility or disability issues, please contact us to discuss this. Sorry, but pregnant women cannot participate. All Riders must sign a Liability Waiver. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian that can sign the waiver on their behalf. For your safety, we strictly enforce the age and weight limits.

ARE SEGWAYS DIFFICULT TO RIDE?

Segways are designed to be easy to ride. The machines use five onboard gyroscopic sensors and two accelerometers to keep the Machine upright. The sensors send this information to the microprocessor over 100 times per second to maintain the Segway's upright balance. We provide a 15-20 minute orientation of the Segway before the tour and most riders become confident within 5-10 minutes of riding.  The only controls are your body weight. No buttons, switches, gas pedal or brakes to operate. Simply lean forward slightly to go forward and lean back to slow or stop. Push the handlebars left and right to turn. It really is that simple!

ARE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED?

Reservations are required. Occasionally we can accommodate a walk-in based on availability and the number of guides that are working. We always recommend an advance reservation as we can fill up quickly in the summer months.  We strongly suggest you book online or call us directly at 208.550.3939. A credit card is required to book a reservation, however your card will not be charged until the day of your tour.

CAN I CANCEL OR CHANGE MY RESERVATION?

Advance reservations must be made using a credit or debit card. We do not charge your credit card until the day of the scheduled tour.  You can cancel or make changes without a penalty within 48 hours of your scheduled reservation. When you make a reservation, we hold a Segway specifically for you and schedule Guides based on the confirmed reservations. Last minute cancellations and no-shows greatly impact our ability to service our guests. Therefore, we will not issues refunds within 48 hours of a scheduled tour time, or for no shows. Changes or cancellations with a full refund are gladly accepted with more than 48 hours notice.  We also cannot accommodate any refunds if you show up late and miss the Segway safety and orientation training.

HOW FAST AND HOW FAR WILL A SEGWAY GO?

The max speed of a Segway is approximately 12.5 miles per hour and can travel about 24 miles on a single charge. Speed, terrain and body weight all factor into just how far and how fast a Segway can travel. Our training is done at around 3-4 miles per hour, similar to a walking speed. As you gain confidence, we can progressively increase the speed.

AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE OR INJURIES?

All reservations require payment in full and we do NOT charge a security deposit. You are personally responsible for any damage to the Segway, the personal property of others, or injuries caused by you to other persons or yourself.  Each rider is required to read and sign a full Release of Liability Waiver to ride. Each Segway costs in excess of $6000. We offer a complete Segway PT damage waiver for just $5, which covers ALL damage to, or theft of the Segway, during your tour. It does NOT provide coverage for any other damage or injury that you might be responsible for.

Example: You accidentally hit a parked car with the Segway and put a minor dent in the car and crack the tire rim on the Segway. If you opted to purchase our damage waiver, the $150 cost to replace the Segway rim would be covered, however you would have to arrange with the owner of the parked car for the damage caused to their vehicle. We do not offer accident insurance or coverage.

WHAT ABOUT LOUSY WEATHER?

Segways are designed to ride in wet conditions. We do not cancel tours for light rain, drizzle or wet conditions. However, if severe weather such as heavy rain, high winds, snow, lightening or bitter cold is forecast, then we may find it necessary to reschedule or cancel your tour. We can provide rain ponchos at no charge if it rains on your tour date.

CAN I RIDE IF I AM PREGNANT?

Unfortunately, the short answer is no. The safety of you and your child is our primary concern. Therefore we are not able to offer Segway tours to expectant mothers.

MUST I WEAR A HELMET AND SAFETY VEST?

YES! We absolutely care about your safety and require everyone to wear a riding helmet and HiViz safety vest. Our helmets are sanitized after each tour for your protection and handlebars are sanitized as well. You are welcome to bring your own bicycle helmet if you prefer.

SHOES MATTER!!

You will be standing while riding for a couple of hours, so your shoes matter for both comfort and safety.  Your shoes must be flat bottomed and closed-toed. High heels (including boots), flip-flops and open-toed shoes will not be permitted.

CAN I BRING A PURSE OR BACKPACK?

We do not permit purses or backpacks to be worn while riding. This is done as a safety precaution to ensure nothing becomes entangled with the handlebars during operation. Each Segway is equipped with a small bag that will hold a bottle of water, cellphones, small misc items or medications, or a lightweight jacket or rain poncho. Purses and backpacks can be stored at our facility for you.

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS WHILE RIDING?

You are more than welcome to bring a small camera or your cellphone for pictures, however photographs can only be taken when we are stopped and off of the Segways. We do not allow larger format cameras to be worn around the neck as there is a risk of the camera becoming entangled with the handlebars. Our Guides will gladly assist with taking photos for you. Your Guide will be taking photos throughout your tour and they will be made available to you for free after the tour via an email link.

ARE BATHROOMS AVAILABLE?

Unfortunately we do not have bathrooms available at our facility. There are public bathrooms along our route at McEuen Park, City Park, and the Carousel. These public bathrooms are large, clean, and well maintained.

CAN I RENT A SEGWAY?

Unfortunately, the bottom line answer is no. The liability is just too great to have guests go off on their own on Segways. We only offer guided tours, with professional guides to assist you and sufficient hands on training before we depart.

PARKING

Plenty of on-street parking is available on Lakeside Ave and public parking is free in this area.

WHAT DAYS ARE YOU OPEN?

We are open 7 days a week beginning June 1st through October 31st.  We are open from 9:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Saturday and Sundays we are open from 12:00pm-5:00pm.  We offer 2 tour times each day.

ARE GRATUITIES INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

Gratuities are not included in the purchase of your tour package. Tipping is a personal choice and we leave this decision up to the guest. Like most employees in the service industry, our Guides make a significant part of their income from tipping.  A suggested tipping amount is between 15-20%, but you are never obligated to tip. For your convenience you can also prepay a tip on our online booking portal.

SEGWAY SAFETY

Please Watch This Video Before Your Tour

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. Segways are easy to ride and simple to learn, however you do need to understand some simple riding basics beforehand. This video is produced by Segway and is geared toward the purchaser.  We ask that you review this 15 minute video before you arrive so you will have a basic understanding of the operations of the Segway Personal Transporter. This will enhance the hands-on orientation training that we will provide you before your tour begins and allow for more riding time on the actual tour.

All participants will be required to sign a Release of Liability Waiver. You can read the waiver online HERE.
