Your Local Activity Guide
From guided tours on Rydables and Lake Segways to waterfront trails, North Idaho history, and a walkable downtown that keeps people coming back -- the local guide to the best things to do in CDA.
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho sits on one of the most beautiful lakes in the Pacific Northwest -- a pristine alpine lake at 2,157 feet elevation, rimmed by the Cabinet Mountains and the Selkirk range, covering 25 square miles with depths reaching 220 feet. The city is walkable, locally owned, and genuinely built around the water. Whether you are driving in from Spokane for a day trip or spending a long weekend in North Idaho, these are the things to do in Coeur d'Alene that are actually worth your time -- ranked by experience, not by popularity. Start your day with a guided tour from Tour CDA to anchor your itinerary, then build from there.
Tour CDA is the most fun way to see CDA -- and they offer five completely different experiences. Rydables Discover CDA are motorized animal scooters on a guided 90-min tour ($79 adults/$39 kids). Twilight Rydables is the same route at golden hour over the lake ($79 adults/$39 kids). The Explore CDA Segway Tour is a 2-hour guided history tour through historic neighborhoods and the lakefront ($79 adults/$59 kids) -- a totally different pace and focus from Rydables.
The Taste of CDA Food Tour is a 3.5-hour Segway tour with restaurant stops built in ($159, max 8 guests). And E-Bike Rentals are self-guided -- you get a map of the Centennial Trail and go on your own for 4 hours ($55, no guide). Rated 5 stars on Google and TripAdvisor. All tours depart from 1618 East Lakeside Avenue, steps from City Beach and McEuen Park.

A 150-acre natural peninsula right off downtown CDA. The 2.8-mile loop hugs the lakeshore through old-growth Douglas fir and opens up to views that stop people mid-stride. Completely free, five minutes on foot from Tour CDA at 1618 East Lakeside Avenue.
Do this before your tour in the morning or after to wind down. Bring water in summer -- the upper trails get exposed to full sun. Dogs on leash welcome.
The Moni sits at 115 Northwest Blvd -- two blocks from McEuen Park. Inside you will find exhibits on the Schitsu'umsh tribe, the steamboat era on Lake Coeur d'Alene, silver mining history in the Coeur d'Alene mountains, and the railroad that built North Idaho. Small admission fee. Plan 45-60 minutes. One of the most underrated stops in downtown CDA.
McEuen Park is the heart of the downtown CDA lakefront -- free parking, a world-class playground and splash pad for kids, a sandy beach, and a boardwalk that runs along the water. Every Tour CDA route passes through here, so you will see it on your tour. Tour CDA is steps away at 1618 East Lakeside Avenue.
Come early to get a parking spot, explore before or after your experience, and stay as long as you want. Free and open year-round.
Sherman Avenue is CDA's main street -- local restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and breweries, all walkable from McEuen Park and Tour CDA. No chains, no franchise row. Grab lunch here after your Rydables tour or wander the shops before your experience.
The Taste of CDA Food Tour covers Sherman Ave by Segway with restaurant stops built in if you want the full guided experience ($159, max 8 guests). Otherwise, budget 30-60 minutes to explore on your own -- longer if you eat.
CDA is 35 miles east of Spokane — a 30-minute drive on I-90 straight across the Idaho state line. It is the most popular day trip from Spokane for a reason: a mountain lake, a walkable downtown, and outdoor activities you cannot find closer to home.
Book a guided tour with Tour CDA to anchor your day. Tours run 1 to 2 hours and leave plenty of time for Tubbs Hill, lunch downtown, and City Beach before the drive home. Full Spokane to CDA day trip guide →

This is the anchor of your day in Coeur d'Alene. Pick based on what you want: Rydables (90 min, $79 adults / $39 kids) for the most fun; Lake Segway Tour (2 hrs, $79 / $59 kids) for a deeper dive into CDA's history and neighborhoods; Taste of CDA Food Tour (3.5 hrs, $159) if you want restaurant stops built right in; or E-Bike Rental ($55, 4 hrs) for a self-guided run on the Centennial Trail. Call (208) 550-3939 or book online. Summer weekends book up -- reserve in advance.
Sherman Avenue is Coeur d'Alene's main street -- locally owned restaurants, breweries, and cafes running about a mile through downtown. Budget 45 minutes to an hour. If you booked the Taste of CDA Food Tour, restaurant stops are already built into your morning and you may be full.
The full 2.8-mile Tubbs Hill loop takes 60 to 75 minutes at a comfortable pace. Go clockwise from the main trailhead near East 4th Street -- the south-facing lake views open up about halfway through and they are worth the climb. Bring water. The upper section gets exposed to full afternoon sun in summer. Dogs on leash welcome. Completely free and open year-round.
Located at 115 Northwest Blvd, a short walk from the waterfront. Budget 60 to 90 minutes. The Moni covers North Idaho's full arc -- the Schitsu'umsh tribe and their deep roots on this land, the silver mining boom that put the region on the national map, the steamboat era on Lake Coeur d'Alene, and the railroad history that connected everything. Housed in the former home of J.C. White, a steamboat operator who ran these waters when CDA was still finding its shape. Good for all ages, genuinely interesting even for people who do not typically love history museums.
Walk back to McEuen Park and take the boardwalk along the water. City Beach is open for swimming in summer -- cold, clear lake water with mountain views in every direction. This is a good wind-down after a full day of activity in CDA. The Coeur d'Alene Resort sits to the west if you want to walk their famous floating boardwalk or grab a drink with a view of the lake.
If you have the evening free, the Rydables Twilight Tour runs at golden hour and the lake view hits completely differently at dusk. Same 90-minute guided experience on motorized animal scooters through Coeur d'Alene -- just at the best possible time of day. Book the same day if slots are open, or reserve in advance when you book your morning tour.
Five-star rated on Google and TripAdvisor. All tours depart from 1618 East Lakeside Avenue in Coeur d'Alene.
